The “Hermitage” is a 115 year old Victorian cottage that I spent years renovating. It was once the village crack house (see Acceptance and the Art of Home Renovation). It’s in a great little mountain town in the northeastern U.S. and is both retirement refuge and permanent launching pad.
And, OK, so I’m a bit of a hermit after 40 years of chaotic, people-overload work. I’ve traveled a bit and seem to have turned into an old hiker-chick at this point.
This isn’t a blog about anything in particular, but is rather bits and scraps of this and that. Maybe it could be considered eclectic.
After a long absence, I’m hoping to catch up with the blogs of old blogging friends and discover some new ones as well. Thanks for stopping by!

I was so deeply grateful to realize your blog is not about something specific, i immediately followed you. When I’ll find time to read you — or anything else these days — who knows but at least you are up here in the NE so when I whine about the weather, you can whine along with me. That matters.

Hello Beth, it’s lovely to meet you on your own blog now. I was wondering where you came from, and now i know. It seems we share a love of travel, too, although it sounds as though you;re globetrotting a little more often than i am at present. I’ve just been reading Prateek’s post and your comment was right above mine. i couldn’t help but notice that you are going to Santiago de Compostela soon. I haven’t been there, but it sounds fascinating. I was in Andalucia a few weeks ago, and that was lovely. Your ‘hermitage’ sounds idyllic and something to focus on as you renovate it. A lot of hard work to be done, I imagine. I am looking forward to reading more of your posts tomorrow, but right now it’s 11.30pm and time to hit the wooden hills, as thay say. Talk again soon. Thanks for connecting Beth, I love your blog, I’ve been browsing through it. I’m waiting to finalize the purchase of an old town house that needs renovating. Your ‘hermitage’ sounds wonderful, even if it does need lots of work. Our property is also in a chronic state.

Renovating an old town house sounds like fun (especially one in Ireland:0)). Maybe you’ll post pictures? My place is almost done now, and to me it’s beautiful – someday I’ll post before and after pictures. Will you be doing alot of the work yourselves? I’m eager to read more of your blog too – we visited Ireland about 5 years ago – Dublin to Doolin to Cashel to Kilkenny to Glendalough and Wicklow. I’m trying to keep up with the riots going on in Baltimore today, as my sister lives on the outskirts of the city, but will read more of your blog later. Very good to connect with you also and I’m delighted that you like the blog!

I’ve known many people from India in the course of working in medicine, and am hoping to be able to visit there someday.
